Hawks wakes up in the passenger seat of a car, beat to shit, without his wings, and wearing an oxygen mask which makes it impossible for him to talk (all communication he does in this memory is via text-to-speech). He and Best Jeanist, the driver, exposit back and forth about how both of them recently nearly died and then Jeanist makes a pit stop to stop some crimes. The people are half thankful half resentful and mention a lot of heroes have recently quit.
They make another stop in a really nice area of town and stop by a BIG house where the nameplate says 'Ukai'. They go inside and Hawks calls for his mom, but she's not there. The house is empty. His mom has left a note explaining that she got threatened by scary men and released his backstory, and adds that she's proud of him and she's sorry.
Jeanist starts to have sympathy for him and Hawks is like DO not even start and says that they already cut ties a long time ago. Then he says they've got work to do and they gotta go help!! Endeavor!!!
